The Houndstooth Project
Jo Pierce and Philippa Brock
Jo Pierce and Philippa Brock have set up the Houndstooth Project, and last week conducted their first workshop. The incubator workshop introduced the project, which focuses on the iconic textile houndstooth motif and how this classic check can initiate and facilitate cross-discipline collaborative textile projects that investigate materials and processes. Attendees learnt how to do a houndstooth in repeat, discussed the history and use of the motif before playfully interpreting the pattern using various materials in a making session.
Jo and Philippa then shared their co-designed experiments of jacquard weaving and printed textiles with the group to inspire them to collaborate and experiment with a new discipline or technique, before setting the task “Respond: Collaborate: Design: Make:” using the houndstooth motif and sharing the development and design works. These will be uploaded on the Houndstooth Project website.
