People’s Print, Melanie Bowles

Melanie Bowles and Dr Emma Neuberg

Melanie Bowles co-founded the People’s Print project with Dr Emma Neuberg to explore creativity as a tool which allows everyone to participate in the design process and to create bespoke garments for themselves. Her work lies at the intersection between handicraft and digital techniques and offers toolboxes and instructions to print and create garments confidently. Her recent workshop at the V&A celebrated The Great British Floral alongside the Chelsea Flower Show and created beautiful ready-to-print florals. Bowles and Neuberg say: ‘The People’s Print pioneers ways to counter the negative effects of mass consumerism, fast fashion and globalisation. It’s about investing in people’s innate creativity and giving them the confidence, vision and tools to create bespoke products for themselves and their communities.’
