Linda Florence has recently produced a new wallpaper for Ted Baker which can be seen in the brand’s Selfridges space and in the flagship store on 5th Avenue in New York City.

The crystal paper which is now lining Selfridges changing rooms, has not only gold ink but gold and pearlescent foils overlapping to catch the light from every angle as you try on your party dresses! In New York the large scale paper is printed in a rich Egyptian blue on a gold base and wouldn’t look out of place in F. Scott Fitzgerald’s The Great Gatsby’s extravagant parties. There are little touches of gold foil throughout the paper and some of the motif was cut from metal to spread across the brick walls.

A stunning array of colour, texture and print, Linda’a signature style is both sumptuous and luxurious- a refreshing tone in the all too often minimalistic approach to retail interiors. Linda Florence’s work is embedded in a craft for which her experience lends much dexterity.

We are very proud to announce that EN VIE, aux frontières du design-ALIVE, new design frontiers exhibition opens this Thursday at Espace Fondation EDF in the heart of Paris! Curated by Carole Collet, Deputy Director at TFRC and produced by EDF Fondation, the show presents an incredible collection of designers and artists who are working in the awe-inspiring emerging area of ‘design with the living’:

A quiet revolution is happening. A new breed of designers has begun to reshape our world by re-orchestrating our relationship to nature. Some act as ‘Plagiarists’ mimicking the way nature operates. Others choose to co-design with nature as ‘Bio-Artisans’. Some turn ‘Alchemists’ and collaborate with synthetic biologists to re-programme living organisms. Others become ‘Agent Provocateurs’ and explore the ethics and risks of designing with living technology. These designers create and unravel a future hybrid world, where our everyday products and manufacturing tools will be ‘alive’.

EN VIE – ALIVE showcases a range of designers, architects and researchers who are negotiating these new relationships with nature and will showcase living architecture, industrial design, furniture, interaction design, jewellery, textiles, fashion, food design, photography, and film.

The exhibition narrative will explore the following key themes:

The ‘Plagiarists’: Designers who mimic nature and use biomimicry principles but rely on conventional manufacturing methods.

The ‘New Artisans’: Designer-Makers that create new products and materials in collaboration with natural biological materials such as bacteria, fungi and algae.

The ‘Bio-Hackers’: Designers who work in collaboration with synthetic biologists to redesign and engineer living organisms in order to develop new products and interfaces of the future.

The ‘New Alchemists’: products and design tools derived from the merging of biology, chemistry, robotics and nanotechnology to create new hybrid organisms ,combining living with non living technology.

The ‘Agent Provocateurs’: Designers that expose and explore the subject to provoke, communicate and debate ethical issues related to living technology and high-tech sustainability.
